Our team has developed user guides to many parts of our system to allow anyone who is interested to become accustomed to our system.
This discusses the quality of the footage needed to attain good analysis results. Any camera may be used, as long as they meet these minimum specifications:

In addition, the footage should be as still as possible. If the footage happens to shift due to wind or human intervention, try to use a smoothing process to rectify the motion. If it was unable to fix the motion, you can alternatively cut that segment out of the video. A GoPro can meet all of these needs and is a great multi-weather utility to have when recording footage outside.
We have investigated many solutions for capturing footage, including a standing platform on a flt roof, telescoping poles, and large camera stands. Telescoping poles and tripod camera stands, which will be deployed curbside, must be sufficiently tall enough to gather data from the entire intersection. We recommend being close to 30 feet high. An excellent choice for a tripod camera stand is the MegaMount 28' telescoping stand.
If your town allows it, attaching to lighting fixtures like road lights or traffic signals can provide more affordable alternatives for mounting cameras. One recommendation is the WonderPole 21' Camera Ready Pole. This is a bit shorter than the 30' recommendation but due to the proximity to the intersection, should still be sufficient to capture data with the proper angle.
With either of these solutions, the camera will require rigorous angle configuration which can involve raising and lowering the telescoping portion of the mount multiple times. To make camera control easier, using a remote control like the Wireless GoPro Smart Remote for starting and stopping capture can reduce post-processing time. These ground-based solutions can also introduce sway into footage when recording in wind or if the stand is moved while recording. To reduce this, check forecasts ahead of time for possible winds and talk to your local town about possibly getting assistance in setting up and roping off your setup.
