It would be nice to be able to subscribe to receive notifications for new topics in a forum.

I might have time in a few weeks. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

@ecoulthard Any updates on this yet?

Unfortunately no. I haven't even been able to start. It doesn't look like I
will be able to in the near future either. I had been upgrading my website
to rails 4 before submitting this request. Sunpsot solr somehow broke
completely during the upgrade and nothing I have found will fix it. I have
seen other people with similar issues on stackoverflow but all of their
solutions don't work. It has been very frustrating and has actually put me
off further developing my site for now. I can comment out all the sunspot
code but then I wont have search functionality. I can try thinking sphinx
but I don't really want to go to all the trouble I already went through
getting solr to work.

Sorry.

@ecoulthard That's alright. Hopefully Future-You or someone else can take up the reins on this one.

Another vote for this functionality.

Ideally, this would also be implemented site-wide so that a post in any forum would trigger an email notification to subscribers.

I'm busy integrating Forem into my app (a sports club website). We've a few more high priority things to look at (like getting Forem looking nice with Bootstrap 3) before looking at this.

@lyneux I would love a PR to add this in. If you're not (as) busy any more, I would love it if you would do that.

I will add this to the possible feature list for the gem release (discussed in #666)
