The ispell window is expanded. (eg. try ispell-word)

I ran into the same problem, and here is my work around:

(defun pl/ispell-alive-p ()
    (get-buffer ispell-choices-buffer))
(eval-after-load "golden-ratio"
  '(progn
     (golden-ratio-mode 1)
     (add-to-list 'golden-ratio-inhibit-functions 'pl/ispell-alive-p)))
