AFAIK most things using gettext use _e() and __() for that, so it
looks kind of familiar. It should read "echo" :) I thought of using
something magical like "==" first, but "e" reads better and has less
chance of clashing with a default jqtpl tag.

Lets see what some good systems are doing, still not sure about "e"
