PnPjs and Azure Functions

I've been looking into methods for building Azure Functions to support some admin tasks in Office 365. Originally I considered the PnPjs library, but after looking over Office 365 CLI, it seems to have much better support for pretty much everything.

Are there plans to expose Office 365 CLI more as a library to aid in building Azure Functions? The current range of commands in the Office 365 CLI is unmatched in any other PnP library it seems.

Hey @stvpwrs, thank you for the kind words and considering using the CLI for your use case. Could you tell us a bit more about how you'd like to use the CLI ideally?

Hey @waldekmastykarz, sorry for the delay in replying. We're looking to make some Azure Functions that wrap either the MS Graph or a client library so we can then orchestrate some automation through Logic Apps/Power Automate. So we can have a flow that triggers an Azure Function to say, archive a Team or run a Teams report.

So hosting that in Azure Functions would make integration easier. Currently, looking at the landscape for M365/O365 libraries, there isn't many really mature options. The Office 365 CLI seems to be the most mature, and it seems like it's entirely written in TypeScript from scratch without any major underlying libraries.

So what we'd be interested in, is Office 365 CLI presented as libraries that a TypeScript Azure Function could import and leverage for the automation.

Thank you for the explanation @stvpwrs. CLI wasn't built as a library that can be consumed from other solutions. Theoretically, you should be able to get it to run, but there could be edge cases that don't work as expected. Sorry, I wish I had better news for you. If you'd like to use the CLI, the most reliable would be to execute the commands through the CLI and then process the output in JSON format rather than try to hook into the CLI's code.

Thanks @waldekmastykarz, I appreciate the response. Is there any plans for focusing some of the JavaScript work into a single library? It kind of seems all of the JavaScript code is split across multiple libraries that are aimed at different use cases and all have some partial overlap.

PnPjs would be your best best for that: it's built as a library meant to be integrated in code. It's SharePoint for a big part and then has some coverage of MSGraph.
