Checking for updates happens on each start of the CLI before executing commands or starting the CLI in immersive mode. The package we use for checking for updates (update-notifier) also ensures that it doesn't prompt you too often, so perhaps the reason you didn't see the notification while running status but you did when running the next command was the amount of time passed since the last check. |
