this is an interaction that vanilla provides: when pressing ESC, all objects/connections are deselected.
i originally wanted to note another suggestion here concerning the resize interaction of objects. currently, plugdata has 3 mouse interactions on objects (besides the context-menu based actions):
move object
create connection from in/outlets
resize
3 is only available in selected mode, which makes sense to me, since it is probably a very rare interaction compared to the other two. i wanted to suggest to require a modifier key (Shift or Cmd) for resizing to avoid misclicks in this context. but another option might be to work with the unselected state - although this is not an option when moving a group of objects.
since i'm not sure what the "right" solution here is, or if there's even a need for change, a little discussion here seems appropriate.
