Building on Linux

I have CMake installed but I can't find a way to install Visual Studio Build Tools on Linux. Is there any way I can build this natively, or would I need to install Windows in a VM to be able to build it from source?

I'm interested in forking this project to see if I can get it working with a different inventory and stash size.
