# Percona Backup for MongoDB 2.6.0 has been released

<!-- more -->

Percona Backup for MongoDB 2.6.0 has been released on September 2, 2024.

This release provides the following features and improvements:

* [Support for multiple storages for backups and restores](https://docs.percona.com/percona-backup-mongodb/features/multi-storage.html){:target="_blank"} enables you to define additional remote backup storages and instruct PBM to which storage to save a backup. This ability helps you save on data transfer costs when using cloud storage, as well as enables you to follow closely with the requirements of your organization’s backup policy.

* [Adjust node priority for point-in-time recovery oplog slicing](https://docs.percona.com/percona-backup-mongodb/features/point-in-time-recovery.html#adjust-node-priority-for-oplog-slices){:target="_blank"} and have more control over the process. For example, prioritize geographically closest nodes for oplog slicing and reduce the network latency.

* [Snapshot-based physical backups](https://docs.percona.com/percona-backup-mongodb/features/snapshots.html){:target="_blank"} are generally available enabling you to use this functionality on production and enjoy all the benefits of faster restores from snapshots with almost immediate access to data.

* Dropped support of MongoDB 4.4. Existing functionality remains compatible with Percona Server for MongoDB 4.4. Further enhancements and bug fixes are no longer tested against this version.

* Packaging changes:

* Added support for Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat).
* We no longer provide packages for Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver), Debian 10 and Red Hat Enterprise 7 and derivatives as these operating systems reached End-Of-Life

# Percona Backup for MongoDB 2.7.0 has been released

<!-- more -->

Percona Backup for MongoDB 2.7.0 has been released on October 10, 2024.

This release primarily focuses on bug fixing and code stability. Find the list of fixes in Percona Backup for MongoDB 2.7.0 [release notes](https://docs.percona.com/percona-backup-mongodb/release-notes/2.7.0.html){:target="_blank"}.

Yet it also offers the ability to increase the security of your cloud infrastructure. Now PBM running in Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) can access AWS services using the credentials from the IAM role associated with the service account that is assigned to the Pod where PBM is running. However, if you run Percona Operator for MongoDB, there's the limitation: a restore does not work with this feature without the modification of default serviceAccount. We plan to cover this case in future releases of the Operator.

# Percona Server for MongoDB 6.0.18-15 has been released

<!-- more -->

Percona Server for MongoDB 6.0.18-15 has been released on November 5, 2024.

This release is of interest to users who use data-at-rest encryption with the Vault key management server. Before putting a new master encryption key as the versioned secret to Vault, Percona Server for MongoDB now checks if the secret's version reached the defined maximum. This prevents the loss of the old secret and the master encryption key it stores on the Vault server.

Make sure Percona Server for MongoDB has read permissions for the secret’s metadata and the secrets engine configuration. For details, refer to the [documentation](https://docs.percona.com/percona-server-for-mongodb/6.0/vault.html#master-key-loss-prevention){:target="_blank"}.

Learn more about this improvement and other changes in Percona Server for MongoDB 6.0.18-15 [release notes](https://docs.percona.com/percona-server-for-mongodb/6.0/release_notes/6.0.18-15.html){:target="_blank"}.

# Percona Server for MongoDB 7.0.14-8 has been released

<!-- more -->

Percona Server for MongoDB 7.0.14-8 has been released on Monday, September 23, 2024.

This release introduces the following improvements:

* Automatic check of the state of master encryption keys on the KMIP server. If a master encryption key for a node transitions to the state other than Active, the node reports an error and shuts down. This method allows security engineers to quickly identify which nodes require out-of-schedule master key rotation. As a result, the mean time to resolve (MTTR) compromised encryption key incidents in KMIP reduces.
* We provide tarballs for each supported operating system individually and they no longer include built-in libraries. This change reduces the tarball download size and increases their security by simplifying updates for required dependencies.

Learn more about these improvements and other changes in Percona Server for MongoDB 7.0.14-8 [release notes](https://docs.percona.com/percona-server-for-mongodb/7.0/release_notes/7.0.14-8.html){:target="_blank"}.

# Telemetry in Percona Server for MongoDB

<!-- more -->

We have added Telemetry starting with Percona Server for MongoDB 6.0.16-13 and 7.0.12-7. This way we intend to improve our software as we believe that telemetry helps us identify popular features, detect problems, and plan future improvements.

Currently, telemetry is added only to the Percona packages for both basic and Pro builds and to Docker images.

The data we collect is anonymous, meaning it can’t be traced back to any individual user. Learn what we collect, what we don't collect and why telemetry matters from the [Telemetry and data collection](https://docs.percona.com/percona-server-for-mongodb/latest/telemetry.html){:target="_blank"} document.
