Is there a minimum sample size recommendation for running a spatiotemporal model, specifically for index standardization?

Unfortunately, no -- it all depends on the spatial extent of the data, density of 0s, spatial range in the process, etc. Probably best to use a variety of meshes and compare coarser models to non-spatial or strata-based approaches
