Effects of Climate Change

Climate Change, if not dealt with promptly, is said to be the cause for a potential doomsday.
Why is this so? Since the 1980s, average surface temperatures have been on a rise which has led to global warming. “Global temperatures rose about 1.98°F (1.1°C) from 1901 to 2020, but climate change refers to more than an increase in temperature.”

Natural disasters like droughts, floods, and hurricanes are estimated to be of a higher intensity; these would cause a ripple effect leading to a large section of the population being prone to poverty. United Nations found that an estimated 23.1 million people were displaced due to events related to Climate Change.

Even though these details may seem intimidating, NASA has stated that “it may not be too late to avoid or limit some of the worst effects of climate change” if we can follow the right path.

How can Data Visualization help
Combat Climate Change?

One of the goals of Climatist is to display the changes that our environment has undergone since the 20th century. Why? Studies have found that data displayed in the graphic form can have certain cognitive advantages including expanding the limited human memory and ensuring what is remembered is the relevant information.

Climatist aims to make use of this human ability so that people are able to retain and, thus, share critical information about Climate Change.

Combustion of fossil fuels for various industrial activities causes carbon dioxide emissions which trap the heat in the atmosphere, hence, causing global warming.

As a result of increased CO2 emissions, average surface temperatures across the globe have increased.
