An idea: instead of Galacnik covering the screen and sliding down, and then GGZ just starting, the transition could be a made a bit more organic.
After Sonic delivers the last hit, the platforms stop falling (with the way the background works, it would be barely visible), Galacnik slides into the background, only instead of shooting energy balls, he laughs and flies upwards. Sonic jumps in the air, turns into Super Sonic (if he's not already in the form) and flies up as well. Once the Little Planet is no longer visible and the background is all space, GGZ starts.
Since the PPZ boss theme and the GGZ theme have the same beat, musically it would be cool to compose an interlude track that uses the same beat, a bassline, and not much else that starts playing when Galacnik flies off and that segues into the GGZ theme once GGZ starts.
