did a proof-of-principle test on a an Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect where I just squeezed the foam in between the source and sink (3.3V - GRD). I was able to get it to change the values based on the proximity of the wires, but in it's current state it would be only good for an on/off binary sort of situation. Probably makes sense to try what is done in this paper.
