Start playback at the current volume level

What do I want to do?

When a motion sensor detects that I have entered a room, it should start playback. The volume should fade in.

Problem:

The 'play_media' action always starts with the volume used before the last stop and ignores the volume previously set for this player.

Current workaround:

Before stopping playback and turning off the player, I set the volume to 0.01. Then the next playback starts at 0.01 again. However, this also means that if you start playback manually via MA, the volume on this player is also set to 0.01.

Solution:

It would be great if playback started at the volume level that was last set in the player.

I’m only guessing but might be a HA problem as you are setting the volume. Why are you mixing the use of device_id and entity_id. I suggest try changing all to entity_id and make sure these are the MA entity. You could also experiment by using an additional delay after setting the volume. Use the automation trace to see what is happening as well.

I don't think it has anything to do with HA. I can reproduce the behavior in the MA UI as well:

1. Player plays at volume 50:

2. Turn off player:

3. Turn on player:

4. Set volume to 10:

5. Start playback:

6. It will play at the last used volume of 50:

This behavior may also be undesirable in other situations. If you want to play soft music in the evening or at night without waking anyone up, you currently cannot adjust the volume before you start playing.
