So this is more of a bit of a talk that is a bit known in the VST sample community that is AKA Transposition Trick.
What is the Transposition Trick?
To sum it up, it's a method to create a different sample by detuning up or down diatonically/chromatically to create a pseudo effect of a divisi ensemble.
What are the benefits of doing this?
Well, for people who don't want to use recorded ensemble patches because there a2, a3, a4 and so on and want to use individual sounds, can opt for this method to create a divisi. Please understand that this method doesn't apply for any situation. sometimes the ensemble patches sound better because they give you a better sound boost than individual patches do.
To understand what happens is to understand Phasing and Polarization. When phasing happens most of the sounds get boosted with the sound and have their significant gains, but if sounds do cancel each other or you are out-of-phase then this can really hurt your mix.
I will post a short video explaining. I did 4 horns with Transposition Trick and 4 horns without transposition Trick. The result is obvious!
