I have created some template repositories for myself which I use as a basis for creating new projects, but there are always things like names that I have to manually change for every project, every time I create a repository using a template.
Why isn't there a way to, say, have some simple-ish search-and-replace feature we could use to automatically insert certain snippets of text to specific locations when creating a new repository from a template? Things like the project name in README, the name of the source code folder, some features in Actions scripts, project metadata file contents (eg.
pyproject.toml
), and so on. Maybe even some names inCODEOWNERS
.It looks like a small feature on the surface, yes, but I bet it would come in handy.
