Feature Request 🦄 :
Currently, GitHub only supports
.png/.jpeg/.jpg
as a valid upload format for profile images. Can we expect an update supporting .gif images keeping the limelight on the same? I do understand that adding support for .gif in the list might add extra overhead in terms of both storage and computation performed in compressing and preserving the images in DB, but still, I believe most will consider it as a major feature upgrade in terms of aesthetics.Thoughts?
UPDATE (10-10-2024): Thanks for the support, everyone! It appears that GitHub now allows the addition of GIFs, although there are some limitations. Instead of displaying a dynamic preview, it simply shows the GIF as a static image, similar to a standard JPG or PNG. It’s 2024, and this long-awaited feature is still not fully functional :(
