Issues when downloading .exe files from Assets

When trying to download .exe file from either api or from the UI it fails with the below error in Mac. Does anybody know how to resolve this?

Have you previously been able to download .exe files on your Mac? I'm under the impression that you're unable to do so as those files are created for Windows systems unless you have a program to act as a compatibility layer.
