Watch Feature in GitHub Repositories: Managing Notifications Effectively

I've been facing some difficulties with the Watch feature in GitHub repositories and would like to provide feedback and ask for improvements.

Issue Summary

• When selecting "Watch all", I receive an overwhelming number of notifications for every change in the repository, including all issues and comments, making it hard to focus on important updates.
• When selecting "Custom" (for example, watching only issues), I still receive a flood of notifications from users commenting on the issues, rather than just being notified of new issue creation or resolution.

Suggested Improvement

It would be really useful to have a more granular notification setting to:

1. Watch only when a new issue or pull request is created.
2. Receive notifications only when a pull request has been merged or closed, without being notified of every single comment or activity.

This would help in keeping up with important repository updates like new bugs or critical pull requests without getting overwhelmed by unnecessary notifications.

Is there an existing solution?

If there's a way to achieve this level of control over notifications, I would appreciate any guidance on how to set it up. Otherwise, I believe this could be a valuable enhancement to GitHub's notification management system.

I’m experiencing it while watching the Flutter repository.

I want to stay updated on important changes like new issues or pull requests, but I’m getting overwhelmed with notifications every time someone comments on any issue or pull request.

The constant notifications are distracting and make it hard to track the updates that actually matter to me.
