Upgrading YOURLS results in 504 Gateway Timeout

While upgrading YOURLS version 1.7.2 to 1.8.2, it results in Gateway Timeout without completing the upgrade.

Is there a way around this?

Large database size may be a contributing factor, nearly 500MB.

I found this from the Apache error log:

I solved this myself by changing max_execution_time from 30 to 600.

The upgrade took somewhere between 30 to 60 seconds.
