We will develop a set of (more advanced) heuristics to detect measurements which present inconsistencies (e.g. measurements submitted from a location different than that of the probe) that can be a sign of faulty data.
Examples of input data that can be used to distinguish valid from invalid measurements include:
(Privacy preserving) Probe identity and lifetime;
GeoIP location;
Network location;
Measurement outcomes consistent or inconsistent with measurements from other probes;
Probe version, OS, platform.
This activity will mainly be carried out by the OONI team (CTO, Research Engineer and Backend Engineer), but will also initiate the involvement of the cryptographer. It requires getting input from all members of the project, since these heuristics need to take into account the whole OONI measurement collection ecosystem (from the applications to the processing and publication of OONI data).
