Voters Daily

Description

Votersdaily is an attempt to scrape the contents of government schedules and combine that event data into a single datastore. The intention is that this data can then be used to build web applications and mashups which will increase the level of transparency between government entities and the public on time-sensitive issues. For more information on the motivations behind the project, please see the original thread on the Sunlight Labs Google Group.

Uses

The original use intended for this data was the publication of a Voters Daily website that displays a summary of “today’s” government activity. Other possible applications of this data include:

  • Publication of iCal feeds for government bodies that don’t already make them available
  • Pushing of all scraped events to a public Google Calendar for quick access and to be used via the Google APIs
  • Integration with news feeds, commentary, and CSPAN feeds for a holistic view of government activity
  • Integration with OpenCongress, GovTrack, and other transparency-motivated sites to add a temporal element to their other excellent data
