wouldn't it be useful to know which languages are allowed for those static site generators? most of them probably use markdown, but some, like hakyll, allow basically any language that pandoc can support, which i see as a huge plus.

It's a good point. We did have a field for it in the early drafts. Would be open to a pull request bringing it back in if it really ads to the index page and you manage to fit in the information in a clean way (ie, how do you fit it in on the index page when a StaticGen supports Markdown, Textile and Restructured Text?).
It's also gonna be a bit of work to gather all the data for all the static site generators we're currently listing...
I support the decision to add a search or display string to the markup language.
