<p>This is Chamonix, with Mont Blanc in the background. Mt Blanc is on the border of France and Italy and also very
close to the border of Switzerland...a little like the Texarcana of Western Europe. Not!</p>

<div class="third bord"><p>The photo does not do the mountain justice. It can be seen from everywhere. It is the highest in the
Alpes and western Europe. It is over 17,000 feet at its summit. </p>

<div class="third"><p>There is a cable car from Chamonix to Aiguille du Midi, which itself is 12,000 feet. The ride takes about
30 minutes and is a little harrowing.</p>

<p>This structure needs no introduction. I wasn't going to include it, but I like the photo so here it is. Besides,
icons are iconic for a reason, although I usually hate anything touristy, which is a sad statement as these beautiful
structures were not built for tourists. It's not Las Vegas!</p>

<div class="third bord"><p>Unlike the photo you will see later of Place Bellecour, this IS the Eiffel Tower in
the background. One day I want to create a collection of European arches. But L'arc De Triomphe is really beautiful.</p>

<div class="third"><p>All in all, it's a nice stroll down the Champs Elysees towards the Arc De Triomphe. Yes it's similar to
5th Ave in New York, but it's nicer.</p>

<div class="third"> <p>This may be one of the most famous views of Lyon.
I took it from the iconic red Passerelle Saint-Vincent bridge. As the sun began to set each day, the brightly colored buildings on the
River Saone would be awash in an amber glow!</p>

<div class="third bord"><p>Lyon is considered to be the food capital of France. And considering, at least in my opinion
that France is the food capital of the word, well, it follows that Lyon is the food capital of earth. I can confirm.</p>
</div>
<div class="third"><p>Lyon is the birthplace of 20th-Century haute cuisine. It all began here under the tutelage of Georges Auguste Escoffier. You can
learn more from Anthony Bourdain as he visits Lyon with Daniel Boulud in
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXK2AkDODBM" target="_blank">Parts Unknown</a>.</p>

<div class="third"> <p>This is the Places Des Terreaux in Lyon. It is where the Hotel De Ville, or city hall
is located, as well as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.</p>
</div>
<div class="third bord"><p>The fountain, by sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi who also designed the Statue of Liberty,
adorns the center of the places.</p>
</div>
<div class="third"><p>Places Des Terreaux is one kilometer in a straight line from Place Bellecour.</p></div>

<div class="third"><p>This is Place Bellecour in Lyon. Up at the top of the hill you can see The Basilica of Notre
-Dame de Fourvière. It was built around 1872.</p>
</div>
<div class="third bord"><p>To the right of Fourviere is NOT the Eiffel Tower! But it was intended to look like it.
Apparently in the late 1800s Lyon was having an identity crisis and wanted to be more like Paris.</p>
</div>
<div class="third"><p>The huge public spaces in Europe, of which this is one, always amaze me. It also looks a
little like the grounds at Versailes.</p>
