May be you should update your README.md file.
Because I have to install 'express', too. Not only socket.io. And correct your syntax, Sir: npm install <module_name> --prefix ./public/
One thing, I meet an error when I type "composer install", but "composer install --no-scripts" works for me.
I hope you can update it ASAP because there are a lot of people not good at English like me.
