I have got it working on this laptop by using /sys/bus/iio/devices/iio:device0/in_illuminance_raw as the input.
It seems this laptop has much higher raw values for the light sensor compared to the default limits in the config file.

I not entirely clear on ----how the +A function mentioned in the documentation exactly is supposed to be used. If I press this combination, nothing seems to be happening.
