Just as a +1, this happens to me too $ mate-power-preferences

I've figured out where this error is coming from so I'm posting here in case this can help anyone else. For me the error was the If that errors out chances are that is the culprit. Also, something to watch out for is having a swap file in your home directory (e.g. [1] https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_management/Suspend_and_hibernate#Hibernation |
