Hello! Welcome to the Maptime Wiki. We don't plan to use this much, only when it's the right tool for the task. Right now it's the best thing we can think to use for our Volunteer Role Call.

Maptime is growing fast, and we need your support to keep it going! If you are interested in helping with something, put your name + github handle next to areas where you want to help. Even one task makes a huge difference!

Volunteer Roles!

HQ General

Onboarding!

Social media

  • being on Twitter (@maptimeHQ)
  • promoting on Facebook / Google+
  • writing blog posts (for HQ and for chapters)
  • editing/writing a “this week in Maptime” newsletter
  • collecting photos for the Flickr group

Chapter Management tasks

  • contact moribund chapters
  • keep list of organizers up to date in the Chapter Spreadsheet
  • keep track of number of meetups happening / conjunctions / chapter anniversaries
  • Create systems to better support these tasks (with Web Team)

Website & Github maintenance

  • approve pull requests (of what?)
  • maintain chapter sites hosted in the main repo
  • create chapter-specific teams within the github organization
  • assist chapters in moving their Maptime content to the Maptime repo

Financial management & Fundraising

  • solicit donations
  • accept donations
  • allocate funds to chapters as needed
  • manage Xero account (coming soon!)

Volunteer Coordination

  • Make sure that these tasks are happening
  • Answer questions that people may have about what to
  • Help find new volunteers when old ones are ready to move on

2015 Maptime Summit

Pre-event communications

  • Answer questions to attendees like, Where should they stay?
  • Organize couch sleeping / room sharing arrangements
  • Update Summit page with information as it becomes available

Design!

  • We need a great big map of all our chapters for everyone to sign!

Day-of tasks

  • Make sure coffee and lunch are set-out / working with catering day-of
  • Setting up the space
  • Sitting at registration table
  • Making sure volunteers know where to go
  • Greeters / Making sure questions are answered

Gifts for volunteers (if we can afford them; my hope is yes!)

  • Decide what the gifts are
  • Make them or buy them

Funding - HQ

  • Put out call for patronage of the Summit. Note that whatever is leftover will go to helping Maptime chapters in need of financial assistance.

Areas we may need help in but aren't sure yet

Afterparty! In conjuction with GeoNYC. work with Alyssa and Maptime NYC Team to make sure our bases are covere

Food and beverages at event

  • Arrange for coffee and breakfast
  • Arrange for lunch
  • Arrange for juice and snacks in afternoon

Financial management

  • Making sure $$ from Eventbrite goes into bank account
  • Track expenses

Swag bags

  • Maptime stickers
  • Rainbow stickers
  • coupon for 20% off Maptime t-shirt or coffee mug
  • Sponsor materials
  • A totally sweet bag for all of it to go in
