ImHex requires OpenGL & performance issues #940
Comments
The OpenGL 3.0 support is a problem when I am install ImHex using Virtualbox. Not sure if there is a way to enable it. |
During an initial install of the latest version (1.33.1), the tool seemed to be almost entirely invisible and practically unusable. This was with VMWare at the time, but after another attempt from scratch for version 1.33.1 and version 1.32.2, I was not able to reproduce this. Everything seemed to work as intended. Though I was able to reproduce the OpenGL 3.0 error with a default setup FlareVM in VirtualBox. So this is something we will need to look into. |
Mesa3d as a software renderer may work, vbox doesn't support hardware opengl3 afaik |
@d35ha do you want to attempt to fix the package? Otherwise I would propose we remove it from the repository. |
@Ana06 It looks like ImHex also ships a "NoGPU" version in their github release which seems to work well with VirtualBox. Wonder if we can download both GPU and non-GPU versions as an alternative? Latest Release: https://github.com/WerWolv/ImHex/releases/download/v1.35.0/imhex-1.35.0-Windows-Portable-NoGPU-x86_64.zip |
@emtuls installing the non-CPU version may work! but how do we know which one of the two to install? 🤔 |
Details
ImHex requires a graphics card with OpenGL 3.0 support. We should fail the package to install if it is not available. In addition @emtuls noticed some issues with ImHex. @emtuls can you elaborate on that?
