After enrolling a Mac client with Jamf Pro, the user usually gets no feedback on the policies and installations running in the background. This can be a frustrating experience for the user, applications and settings are ‘missing’. SplashBuddy solves this problem by showing the user a customizable screen with progress markers right after enrollment.
For the end-user, the process will look like this:
- Computer will arrive sealed
- When powering it on, it will display the standard Setup Assistant, but ask for a LDAP Login/Password
- After the usual Setup Assistant panes, user will arrive on the desktop
- After a few seconds, SplashBuddy will appear. It will show progress on the installation of software and give user additional information
- When all the critical software is installed, user can click on "Continue" and start working!
All SplashBuddy does is parse /var/log/jamf.log
. There is no other logic. It is up to you to create the necessary policies in Jamf Pro.
SplashBuddy relies on:
- Configuring and packaging SplashBuddy
- Configuring the JSS
If you can, please contribute.
You can also freely edit the wiki, every little bit helps!
