Feature - Comment/reference text for donors when donating to a project. #771
Comments
Anonymity is not linked to the absence of a username, it applies to all donations. Allowing donors to send a message along with their donations would break anonymity. We're not ready to do that yet (#271). Attaching to a donation a reference to a project was part of #77, but I'm wary of the additional complexity. For now I think it's better to create a team for each significant project. |
I see.. thanks for clearing it out. I wasnt aware all donations anonymous and the fact it says it was 'anonymous donation' next to each one of them was due to peoples choice to do so. Still not sure what disadvantage revealing who is donating as an opt-in feature. Liberapay know all the details of all it's users
The problem of teams is that then they are visible to everyone. We just want to confirm who is a regular donor so we could reward them .

Rewards are currently forbidden by our terms of service, Liberapay is only for pure donations. In liberapay/liberapay.org#23 we are debating whether we should broaden our mission to include other kinds of payments. |
So if we give emailaliases to all regular donnors through all the other means of donating (paypal, banktransfers,. Bitcoin etc.) It is forbiden to do so with liberapay?

Probably. It depends on how the rule is interpreted. “The user agrees not to use the service for financial transactions that are not donations, notably those linked to the execution of a contract or a promise of recompense.” – Article 1 § 3 of the Terms of Service |
Title updated for searchability. |
I noticed most of donations I receive in my organization comes from 'anonymous' users. This I guess means they haven't provide a username in their profile. However I understand some people would like to remain anonymous, yet let me know who they are or why they are donating money though a comment or reference to the dontation to a project.
Was this type of feature ever mentioned or considered? Would it be hard to add it?
