Waybar icons do not render properly

I have seen the post at r/unixporn and really liked the way the waybar looks and tried to use the bar on my system. It actually seems to work decently except the icons are not rendered and instead, there are boxes with numbers/letters inside them. I downloaded the fonts that are mentioned in the repository readme and also downloaded the Cantarell font which is specified in the waybar/style.css however there is no update on the icons. When I looked at the waybar/config file I have seen that the icons are not rendered as well and instead show an empty square. It is also the same when I inspect the file at GitHub using firefox.

Do you know if I should download a specific font/package to resolve this problem or maybe is there a problem such as an encoding issue at the swaybar/config file?
