to make, as an exception from a normal way, the ability to sync Thunderbird's default "Personal Address Book" (PAB) with a designated remote address book;
or to make an ability to replace the default Thunderbird's PAB role to TBSync's address book.
This feature request is similar to #49 and #105, but with important differences. Those issues speak about putting cards into Cardbook's address books, but this request is about "standard Thunderbird's address books", not about cardbook's ones, because they can't be used by the same way as standard TB's ABs.
Reasons are:
PAB is the only TB's AB those role whose cannot be reassigned in TB.
It's possible to assign TBSync's AB as a book for "collected addresses" from outgoing messages, but it's impossible to reassign the AB for the "Add to Address Book" feature (right click on the "From" address in the message view/window, click to the "add to address book" item...). So it's required to use the two-step way: add a sender's address into the default PAB, edit the new card and move the card to the another AB.
CardBook's address books can't be used in TB's "Message Filters", in the Anti-Spam AB lists and for reassignment for the "collected addresses" feature.
TBSync's ABs are used for those things well.
CardBook can import TB's standard address books, but it doesn't sync changes back to them (at least at the end of 2018, and I didn't find such feature in it's descriptions now).
So, even CardBook can replace the Thunderbird's default PAB for "add to address book feature" (I don't sure, but it sounds like it), CardBook's ABs can't be used in important features like Antispam and Message Filters. TBSync's ABs can be used in all cases.
