"Can I use the draw.io open source project within my company/for my project without any cost?"
A frequently asked question to us. To which we reply "you can use draw.io under the terms of the modified Apache 2.0 license". "But", they reply, "can't you condense the license down to a 1/x sentence(s) so we don't have to read/understand the whole thing?".
No, if the license could be fully described in 1/x sentence(s), the license would be 1/x sentence(s) in length.
The danger of us saying yes to the above question is this example:
You use draw.io in a project and ask the initial question, we answer "yes". You then the draw.io trademark against our wishes in the resulting product. We ask you to remove it and you complain "But you said we could use it for free within our org".
We say "The Apache 2.0 license section 6 explicitly says that we do not grant you use of our trademarks". You say "but you only said yes, you didn't say anything about trademarks".
So, the answer to the question will always be "The modified apache 2.0 license is the complete and minimum description of how you can use the source code in this project that we are the copyright owners on.". If you do not completely read and understand it, you should find someone who does.
If you have been directed here, you have asked that question. If you have questions about this, please start a new discussion and reference this.
