using the existing control system, each thing can define one or more control contexts which define the actions they respond to. these contexts include some default keyboard/mouse/gamepad mappings, but the user should be able to view and change them via a menu interface. these mappings could be stored in localStorage, or possibly exported to files

see something like Battlefield or Kerbal Space Program for examples

Work has started on this, there is now a gamepad button visualizer included in the controls menu
