Is there a way to have Notifee play a sound without showing a visual notification?

On Android specifically. My app is a meditation timer and I have to support interval bells chiming in the background if the user switches to a different app. But a visual notification popping up every time one of these bells rings would be very annoying.

Any way to suppress the visual notification?
