When I can use a CAD plan to map indoor areas inside OpenStreetMap, I often add the man_made=column as they are good marker and often used to place vending machines, defibrilators and so on. Indoor= could render them. I've add a lot of them in train station like CDG2 or Montparnasse

Hi @Stefal, Thanks for reporting this. Adding support for man_made=column would be interesting. It seems to be for decoration only. For structure maybe indoor=column is better (and it's already supported).

Hmmm interesting... I didn't know indoor=column, and I can't find any documentation about it inside the osm wiki. Do you have a link to this tag description?

You're right.
It's just we can see this tag often used.
Anyway, could you at least add "indoor=yes" ?

I'm afraid that there is no documentation. It's one value for indoor that is a defacto standard it seems. Here is the implementation issue indoorequal/indoorequal#3

I'm a little reluctant to use a tag that doesn't bring more information than man_made=column (+ possibly indoor=yes). I'll discuss it with the "train station mapping team" 😃

If it's part of the structure of the building, the indoor=column tag is probably better. We could add some documentation to increase usage.
indoor=yes, gosh please don't.

I’d be interested in adopting the same rules as you :-)

I deployed a dedicated taginfo instance with only indoor features: https://taginfo.indoorequal.org/
It seems that man_made=column is only used in France/Paris: https://taginfo.indoorequal.org/tags/man_made=column#overview
I would recommend to switch to indoor=column for structural features.
Closing this issue. If this tag is gaining some usage worldwide in the future, adding support for it would make sense.
