Demo app / license doesn't work

I have been told from the owner of this repo that this player can now be used for free (ad also the GPL license says). However, I'm not able to use the demo app and the player doesn't work at all. I believe it is because the demo license is expired. And I don't understand why there's a license if it is free now. If I provide this player to my customers it cannot stop working for the license.
