Is this alive and kicking? Would love to see a chat system with many features and also include webcams!

Well, I came up with the idea of creating a web chat as a way to learn node.js, websockets and others with a fun project. That was two years ago and it eventually became something much bigger than I first thought. Nowadays, it's pretty much outdated, since when I started it I had close to zero experience with Node and JS, and now I don't have much time to maintain, refactor, or add features to it. It doesn't mean it's totally dead, but I just can't dedicate time to it (I can review and approve PRs if any comes by).

A couple months ago, though, I decided to create a new one from scratch, more customizable and flexible, using ES6, React and with a lot more features (again as a way of learning new stuff lol). I have much of the frontend done already, but haven't even started the backend as I'm too busy with other projects and personal stuff right now to work on it. It is on the plans to come back to it and release it here, under a new repo, when I can.

Not much! But good news is I just happened to find the project I talked about starting from scratch (the ES6 + React version) lost in my Google Drive! That's how it looks like as of right now:

It certainly needs a lot of tweaks and improvements, and this only includes the basic frontend. The buttons don't do anything and there's no backend yet. I plan on releasing what I've got so far here on Github sometime soon so you all can collaborate!

Looks great so far and has a lot of potential. Can build more and more features off that. I have alot of ideas.

I am not a developer but I will try to help any way i can. I have alot of experience running popular chat websites.

There are a few updates in the v1.1.0 branch (https://github.com/igorantun/node-chat/commits/v1.1.0). They implement a signout button, fix old and vulnerable dependencies and refactor the whole logging part of the application (it's way better!).

Unfortunately, I don't have much time at the moment to update it even further as my routine is completely busy with work and university stuff.

I'd love to get back to it when I have more time to do open source again, though :)
