In the oil industry we typically plot a bubble plot at each well location on a map where the size of the bubble might be scaled by daily oil production. In our applications the bubbles are actually pie charts at each well location where the pie could be divided up by total oil, water or gas production at each well.
I would think that this application might be useful for other mapping applications too. The following is an example created in Spotfire.
