Visual Studio Code XTerm

Does anyone know how to get xterm window out of visual studio code. I want to run Matlab in the GUI, but it does not launch from the terminal. If I open a terminal outside of visual studio, the GUI launches.

Unsure if that is possible. Matlab and VSCode don't gel well I believe.

Not just matlab, any figure that I want to show in my display that uses xterm.
