The database should be exportable and searchable to various formats by means of an API.
Besides the already existing one provided by the CakePhp framework, we probably want a more flexible and reliable stand-alone approach, so that other applications can build upon.
If no stand-alone application is being created, the existing API structures need to be covered with unit tests, see #28
