Height of figures should revert to a default if calculated is too low

Right now we scale the figures using the height of the screen which works pretty well. However if the heigh of the screen is too small (like a smartphone in landscape mode) this fails.
I think we should put an additional condition so that the height defaults to a safe standard if the computed one is too small
