There's a tool called Cobudget which looks like an interesting way to do collaborative budgeting. It's currently in closed beta. I requested an invite through their form about six months ago but never heard further.

Bonjour! Je suis excité pour OuiShare Fest! :D

When we spoke a month or two ago I believe you mentioned Cobudget, and that you might be able to introduce me to someone who could help Gratipay with an invite. Any chance that's still a possibility? :-)

Dug up the mention:

You need to write to Derek and he'll set a team up for you.

Also dug up the email from when I put my email into cobudget.co. Landed on a MailChimp list ... with an email address for Derek in the welcome message! :-)

Subject: set up a Cobudget team?

Greetings! My name is Chad Whitacre, and I'm writing on behalf of an organization called Gratipay. Francesca Pick from OuiShare (cc'd) suggested that I email you to ask if you'd be willing to set up a team for us on cobudget.co.

Is this a possibility? Anything you would need from me before this could happen?

Thanks for your consideration! :-)

Almost forgot to #411 ...

P.S. Gratipay is an open organization, so I have to let you know that I'll at least need to summarize our private email thread over at this public GitHub ticket.

Okay! Looking forward to hearing from you. :-)

Hey there Chad, I'm happy to set you up. Although we're trying hard to keep up with people in a somewhat personal way while in closed beta.

Would you like to chat a bit about how we might support you before we get going? I'll have some speciousness mid-next week. You can throw a time in my cal here.

If not, I can shoot you over an invite and resources right way as well.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for getting back to me Derek! I've booked 30 minutes next Tuesday. What's the best way to do the call? My preference is Google Hangouts on Air, because they're archived to YouTube and therefore easy to share with the rest of the Gratipay community. I'm also happy to do Skype or whatever else might work better for you.

I'm excited to see what you've cooked up with Cobudget! :-)

Actually, let's keep this ticket open to track tire-kicking. :)

And so, I guess the mental model that you might use to think about this is: it's almost like continuous internal crowdfunding.

I made a "bucket" for #534. Now we need to get the rest of you signed up and give you money to allocate ...

I think this looks like a really promising way to allocate our operating budget! I'm a little nervous about pushing this hard before https://github.com/cobudget/beta.cobudget.co/issues/2 is resolved. What do you think @rohitpaulk @aandis @mattbk @clone1018 @kaguillera et al.?

Also, we would want budget allocations to happen publicly, but Cobudget buckets seem to be private.

I've mentioned this in Cobudget's #feature-requests Slack channel. After #421 (comment), I'm wary of making too many GitHub tickets. 😞

Looks like we allocate funds with a CSV. We can invite people at the same time. It'd be a natural fit to integrate Gratipay and Cobudget to allocate funds automatically each payday: the percentage you take would be the percentage you'd be allocated.

Alright! This is exciting! I think we revisit this after we have payroll (#466) so we can use that as the basis for our allocations.
