Escrow shuffled.

I must admit that these things look like a mystery to me. It may help to bring some kind of financial stuff howto for developers to clarify these things in developer-friendly patterns with pictures.

@techtonik No pictures, but otherwise escrow shuffling is documented here:

I don't get what escrow means, and that page describes some implementation details.

@techtonik would a wikipedia link on the howto page be enough? Why do you want pictures?

Escrow generally refers to money held by a third-party on behalf of transacting parties.

Gratipay is the third party. The transacting parties are the giver and the receiver.

@tshepang pictures will be good or a simple english. So, Escrow is a temporary storage for money? When why it needs shuffling?

@techtonik - We have multiple payout methods - mainly Paypal and Balanced. We maintain enough there to cover payments for every payday, and move the rest to a savings account where we earn interest.

The IG link that @whit537 gave you explains the amounts to maintain in PayPal & Balanced, and why they've been set as so. For example :

We need to keep enough escrow in Balanced to handle the case where one or more people finally add a bank account after using Gratipay for a while (year or more) and accruing a significant Gratipay balance. Looking at withdrawals, the biggest week over week spike I'm seeing is about 5x (week 38 to 39), and that's when we were much smaller, so a single new large payout had a major affect. Based on that, we keep 7x the current week's withdrawal in Balanced.
