Provide log fields as labels to be able to configure certain log fields as "Unique labels" or "Common labels" in log panel #316

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I tried quite some time to find out if and how it is possible to configure log fields returned by an OpenSearch datasource to be used as label in Grafana, so that those are showed as Unique labels per log-entry in e.g. the Log panel or "Explore".

As I didn't find anything, I assume that this is missing from the OpenSearch datasource - or documentation is missing.

Describe the solution you'd like
I would like to display e.g. the kubernetes.container_name field contained in my OpenSearch logs to be available as label.

Describe alternatives you've considered
I considered using the "Table" panel in which I can add arbitrary fields as columns, but the log panel provides a better overview for me.

Additional context
Thanks a lot for considering - or maybe for just pointing me into the right direction how to already achieve that.

Hi @thjaeckle, your assumption that this is not currently supported in OpenSearch is correct. We need to update the data source to support the labels field. We currently don't have a timeline for this though. I'll add this issue to our backlog for now.

Hi there, this feature would help us a lot to identify log lines when filtering. Any news about it ?
