Party token clown car button doesn't align to hex grids

When used in a square grid it works fine (spreads tokens within the 8 squares surrounding the party token). But in a hex grid, where I'd expect it to spread the tokens in the 6 surrounding hexes, it instead places them in a square-like formation that doesn't align to the grid.
