A feature that labs can select as part of a Hub for Distributed Events.

  • Test Case: FAB16 and FAB City Summit Montréal

Current
Question in the backend: Current Status of your lab?
Options:

  • planned
  • active
  • corona
  • closed

Add-on
Hub
And if possible people can select from

  • FAB16
  • Fab City Summit Montréal
  • Both

There is one thing that I'm not sure about and this is that for more information we would like to group them into which Hubs are having activities local and which are having things distributed (meaning local and online) - meaning that for example, fablabX is a Distributed Hub of FAB16 and FablabZ is a Local Hub for FCSM - Not sure if this is possible?

Logos for FAB16, FCSM and Both will need to design and send if we agree on further implementation.

Another feature that we would like is to have link to those pages if they select either option if possible.

Currently, I have 12 that will use this right away!

Side Note: Currently the corona option only has 33 labs under this Status, should we keep this option or change it? Or how can we keep track of this if people change it?

@bnore is it possible to use the Organizations for this?

If we create a new Organization and call it a Hub (or whatever), and then add the labs to it?

Example Organization that has multiple labs:

Then we can decide to put feature some of those organization on the frontpage for more visibility?

Each Organization can select what KIND they are:
2021-06-15_12-37-36

We can add another KIND like distributed or similar

I think this is more of visualization than function, since the intention is to see in the map the different places around the world as we did with corona, that are hubs around the world. Organizations is a great place to have it, but can we visualize them in an easy way in the map? if not, lets just do it as a status of a lab. @viktorsmari let me know what is possible.

Currently the labs can only select one of these options:

Only one Kind:
2021-06-16_09-36-33

Only one Activity status:
2021-06-16_09-36-44

If we add 'Hub' to activity status, you have to choose between either active OR closed OR corona.
Right now it's not possible to have multiple like open AND corona AND hub.

Do you think we need to create a new tag / filter where we can choose between multiple items?

  • Corona
  • Hub
  • FAB16
  • Fab City Summit Montréal
  • etc

It would be optional and each lab can check as many as they need (0, 1, 2, ...)

We can then move corona from activity_status to the new 'custom tags' or whatever we will call it.

Then we could add a new filter option to the maps, where users can search for labs that 0, 1 or many of the new custom_tags

Below Filter by status we could add something like Custom filters

Sure that can be an option, and would that option help visualize like little icons of the event around the world on the map? Can we also do a test to try it out and see what could potentially work best?

@bnore now we have to figure out if or how we show multiple icons for a lab.

Imagine if we have a lab that is doing Corona work, is also a hub and fab16 etc.
Should that lab have 3 icons? Currently we cannot show multiple icons for a lab.

Maybe we need a new system to be able to visually show multiple icons? Or use some kind of colors to represent activity_status and use icons for the new custom filter?

Maybe we can have a big icon for the activity_status (open/closed) and then another smaller icon next to it which is the (corona, fab16, etc) but then for 2000 labs, we could be showing 4000 icons on the map..

I think we are missing a design 🤓

Icon visualization on the map is more about changing the colour of the original logo, having like a colour code.

  • Planned lab_Light Gray Logo
  • Open Lab_ Original Fab Lab Logo
  • Closed Lab_ Black Logo
  • Inactive Lab_ Dark Gray Logo
    ++
  • Corona_ Light Green Logo
  • FAB16 Hub_ Orange Logo
  • Fab City Summit Hub_Blue Logo
    • variations for local hubs
  • others that are needed in the future

For visualization an option could be based on the order of tag selection, meaning if you have tags in his order: Corona, Fab16 (Only Corona Shows in the map)

Null and Closed Labs are currently showing in the map in the same format, this needs to change to show the actual status of labs, now it looks like we have more closed labs than active ones.

This can be a colour code that we can use:
