SCOWLv2 Feedback and Questions #398
Comments
Hello Kevin (and anyone else who will read this),
Thank you for the credit you gave me in your v2 writeup. I find it hard to believe that I actually deserve being called "the source for the majority of words" here, but you probably know better than I do whether it is truly justified. Either way, thank you.
I regret that I am busy with other projects, and don't know when, possibly not this year, I can try out Scowlv2 and observe what you've done. It actually looks exciting. In advance of whether an occasion arises for me to do this, I want to ask: Are the Usage instructions applicable to Windows systems as well as Unix? I do not have access to Unix, and don't want it. If Unix is necessary for me to have any fun with Scowlv2, I am unlikely to make the effort. I don't know if anyone else in your user community actually would want it on Windows, but perhaps you should answer that question somewhere in your notes.
Even though I will probably not be able to contribute in a meaningful way to Scowlv2, I am delighted to stay on the list of interested parties.
Thank you for everything!

Hi @biljir, [GitHub had problems parsing your reply and there was a bunch of HTML garbage before the text. If you could turn off HTML and just use plain text for your replies it might help.]
I don't have time to expand on why right now, but yes it is justified.
If you are comfortable using the command line then things should work as long as Python is installed. Some of the command line syntax may not work with Windows shells so you might need to use MinGW also. I will be happy to provide support when the time comes. |
Thanks. The easiest thing for me to do is to communicate by going directly to GitHub (as I am doing now) rather than trying to reply by email. I'm not sure my email setup is flexible enough to turn off the HTML at those times when it needs to be turned off. I'll research MinGW, and will probably be back (whenever) for said support. Thanks again!

To be more specific you might need to install MSYS2 in order to follow the usage instructions. My intention is for SCOWLv2 to be as portable as possible with the only requirements being Python and SQLite, both of which are available on Windows, but I am not very familiar with Windows so I am unlikely to be able to provide Windows specific instructions. Using the command line terminal with MSYS2 will make things easier as it provides a Unix like environment.
Thank you for all the word lists and other information over the years. I don't think SCOWL would of really been possible without your data. |
