draggable window tabs: hwo do i implement them?

What I want to be able to do:

I have two windows (A and B) both with one or more tabs up at the top and some content in the body. what I want to do is twofold:

1. upon selecting a tab, the content in its window is changed to show content tied to that tab.
2. If I drag the tab to the second window, it should add the tab there, removing it from the first window, then immediately focusing the tab.

What I have so far:

• tabs that can be assigned a UUID, that can update a class based on if it was the most recently clicked.
• a variable that tracks the UUID of the last clicked tab.
• a window with:
  • an area to drop the tabs (currently only displays some hardcoded tabs)
  • an area to display arbitrary yuck (currently displays nothing)
  • a UUID

My ideas:

I've thought about having the tabs be draggable, and encoding their associated content into a string that can be used in a literal. but this is far from optimal, as there is no event for starting to drag an object. I need to be able to transfer the tab's UUID to the drop area so that the :ondropped event can delete it. but if tabs are displayed as literals, how would I remove the tab without storing that literal in a file somewhere?

While writing this, I also had the idea to make a file for each window, that stores the tab data (uuid, tab yuck, content yuck, and the UUID of the originating window), and have the ondropped event call some kind of handler script to transfer and potentially translate the data. the dropvalue could then be the UUID of the intiial window concatenated with the UUID of the tab itself. This is lookin glike my best idea so far, even though it would be a bit more complicated to pull off.

I'd like to hear any suggestions about how to handle this. its been driving me crazy.

After sleeping on this project for awhile, I've decided instead to use an object-oriented system to track the data.
